flydubai has announced its strongest financial performance in its 15-year history. The Dubai-based carrier reported record-breaking annual results for the financial year ending 31 December 2024.

The airline’s pre-tax profit reached an impressive AED 2.5 billion (USD 674 million), marking a 16% increase compared to the previous year.

This significant achievement was underpinned by a total revenue of AED 12.8 billion (USD 3.5 billion). This represented a 15% surge from the AED 11.2 billion (USD 3 billion) reported in 2023.

This exceptional performance is attributed to flydubai’s robust and adaptable business model, coupled with the strength of its diverse network.

flydubai: Record 2024 Performance

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, emphasized the airline’s pivotal role in Dubai’s aviation sector.

“flydubai continues to push boundaries and reach new milestones year-on-year,” he stated. “Its business model is built on solid foundations and an unwavering commitment to supporting Dubai’s economic and tourism vision.”

The airline’s strategic focus on connecting underserved markets has been instrumental in bolstering Dubai’s position as a leading global aviation hub.

This connectivity has facilitated trade and tourism, acting as a vital lifeline during challenging times. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum also credited the UAE’s visionary leadership, particularly His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for creating an environment conducive to success.

Operational Performance and Customer Focus

flydubai’s EBITDA saw a 15% year-on-year increase, reaching AED 4.1 billion (USD 1.1 billion). This growth reflects the airline’s unwavering focus on operational and cost efficiency, digital innovation, and continuous investment in enhancing the customer experience.

In 2024, flydubai carried 15.4 million passengers, an 11% increase from the previous year. Overall capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASKM), rose by 10%.

The Passenger Load Factor improved by 1.2 percentage points. Passenger Yield saw a 1% increase, driven by strong demand for both business and leisure travel.

Notably, the airline’s Business Class offering saw an 18% increase in uptake. This resulted in nearly half a million passengers choosing this premium service.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer of flydubai, highlighted the airline’s ability to navigate economic and geopolitical challenges.

“Our record-breaking financial performance, for the fourth consecutive year, demonstrates our continued ability to grow our business and navigate difficult economic and geopolitical challenges through forward planning,” he said.

“Our collaborative approach with our key stakeholders and agility remain key drivers to this success.”

Network Expansion

Despite facing challenges with aircraft delivery schedules, flydubai expanded its network to 131 destinations in 55 countries, with 97 of these being underserved markets.

The airline reinstated services to Al Jouf and Sochi and added 10 new destinations, including Basel, Bhairahawa, Islamabad, Lahore, Kerman, Kish Island, Langkawi, Penang, Mombasa, and The Red Sea. Seasonal summer operations also saw increased passenger numbers.

Fleet Modernization and Future Growth

By the end of 2024, flydubai’s fleet consisted of 88 aircraft, with an average age of 5.3 years. The airline received four Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, although delivery delays impacted planned fleet expansion.

To mitigate these delays, flydubai extended the lease on four Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Looking ahead, flydubai’s order book includes 127 Boeing 737 aircraft and 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with the first wide-body aircraft deliveries expected from 2027.

Elevating the Customer Experience

flydubai invested heavily in enhancing the customer experience. A multimillion-dollar fleet retrofit project saw 17 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft upgraded with new Business Class lie-flat seats and improved Economy Class seating. All retrofitted aircraft now feature inflight entertainment.

The airline also inaugurated a dedicated Business Class check-in area and a new Business Class Lounge at Terminal 2, Dubai International (DXB). Inflight enhancements, including updated menus and entertainment content, further contributed to a superior travel experience.

Partnerships and Connectivity

flydubai continued to expand its network through strategic partnerships. In 2024, the airline signed interline agreements with Batik Air, Condor, and SriLankan Airlines, bringing its total to 36 interline agreements.

Additionally, the airline’s codeshare agreements with Air Canada, Emirates, and United Airlines facilitated seamless travel for nearly 2.3 million passengers across 235 destinations in 101 countries.

Conclusion

flydubai’s record-breaking performance in 2024 underscores its commitment to growth, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

With a strong foundation and a clear vision, the airline is well-positioned for continued success in the coming year. It appears set to further solidify Dubai’s status as a global aviation leader.
