Air New Zealand Welcomes Two New Airbus A321neo Aircraft
Air New Zealand will welcome two brand-new Airbus A321neo aircraft to Aotearoa. The first of these new single-aisle aircraft landed in Auckland this week, marking an exciting milestone for the airline.
The aircraft travelled an impressive 19,342 kilometres from the Airbus facility in Hamburg, Germany, making stops in Muscat, Kuala Lumpur, and Cairns before reaching Kiwi soil.
Australia-Pacific Operations
These A321neo aircraft are designed for flights to Australia and the Pacific Islands, with a capacity to seat 214 passengers.
They showcase cutting-edge narrowbody jet technology, offering improved fuel efficiency and increased capacity for Air New Zealand’s fleet. This addition strengthens the airline’s ability to connect New Zealanders with the world while welcoming visitors to its shores.

The arrival of these aircraft follows the recent launch of Air New Zealand’s retrofitted Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and a new jet service linking Hamilton and Christchurch.
These developments highlight the airline’s commitment to enhancing its network and improving travel options for customers.
The first A321neo, registered as ZK-NNH, will begin service in the coming weeks. The airline expects the second aircraft to join the fleet by late June.
Together, these planes will add approximately 70,000 seats annually to Air New Zealand’s network, boosting connectivity and providing more travel choices.

Strengthening International Network
Jeremy O’Brien, Air New Zealand’s Chief Commercial Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the new additions. “The arrival of these A321neo aircraft shows our commitment to growth and innovation,” he said.
“They’re a key part of our plan to strengthen our international network and offer more options for our customers. We’re thrilled to get these planes flying and will soon share details about their destinations. Stay tuned!”
The first A321neo touched down in Auckland at 6:45 p.m. June 4, with the second arriving later in June.
These aircraft will join Air New Zealand’s expanding narrowbody fleet, bringing the total number of internationally configured A321neo planes to nine.
This latest development underscores Air New Zealand’s dedication to modernizing its fleet and enhancing the travel experience.
The airline is currently operating aircraft ranging from Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and Airbus A320s to ATRs and Q300s. The fleet has an average age of 9.9 years.
