Discover Airlines Launches Long-Haul Routes from Munich
This week sees Discover Airlines inaugurating its long-awaited long-haul flights from Munich Airport. This transforms Germany’s second-largest airport into a burgeoning hub for global travel.
On March 5th, history will be made with the inaugural non-stop flight to Orlando, Florida, a route never before offered from Munich.
This milestone is just the beginning, as Discover Airlines prepares to launch direct services to Windhoek, Namibia, on April 1st. This will be followed by a service to Calgary, Canada, on April 12th.
Expanding International Connections in Munich
These new connections represent a significant expansion of travel options for Munich residents. Orlando and Windhoek will enjoy year-round service, with three weekly flights ensuring consistent connectivity.
Calgary will be served three times a week during the summer season. Meanwhile, travelers can look forward to a winter switch to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. This offers a tropical escape during the colder months. Notably, all four destinations are fresh additions to Munich’s flight roster, or represent a long-awaited return.
A Growing Hub for Leisure Travel
Discover Airlines, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, has been steadily building its presence in Munich since last spring, offering a diverse array of short and medium-haul flights.
This summer, the airline is bolstering its Munich fleet with an additional Airbus A320, bringing the total number of aircraft based there to eight, comprising two Airbus A330s and six A320s.
The expanded fleet enables Discover Airlines to offer an impressive schedule of 32 holiday destinations, with over 80 weekly departures across short, medium, and long-haul routes.
Destinations range from the sun-kissed Canary Islands to the captivating landscapes of Bodø in Norway and Reykjavík in Iceland. Then there is the alluring Mediterranean coast and the emerging destinations of Varna and Burgas in Bulgaria.
All in all, the airline’s summer offerings are more extensive and varied than ever before.

Discover Airlines Successful Growth
“We are thrilled with our successful first year in Munich, both operationally and commercially,” states Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines.
“Our second home base is proving to be a crucial contributor to our overall success, and the strong booking figures indicate continued positive momentum. We are delighted to expand our offerings with these fantastic long-haul destinations and introduce new European routes, just in time for summer.”
Munich Airport serves as Discover Airlines’ second home base, complementing its operations in Frankfurt. All flights depart from Terminal 2, ensuring seamless transfers between Discover Airlines and Lufthansa.
This is a crucial advantage for passengers connecting to long-haul flights. This strategic integration enhances the overall travel experience, providing convenience and efficiency.
Discover Airlines’ commitment to Munich is evident in its substantial investment in local employment.
This year, the airline will employ approximately 400 individuals in the cockpit, cabin, and ground operations. It is contributing to the local economy and solidifying its position as a key player in Munich’s aviation landscape.
With its expanded fleet, new long-haul routes, and diverse European destinations, Discover Airlines is poised to become the leading leisure airline in Munich, offering travelers an unparalleled range of travel options and solidifying Munich Airport’s status as a gateway to the world.
